The Highlander Family offers a memorable family experience, with teams consisting of one child under the age of 13 and one adult. The child sets off through the streets of Gstaad for a short kilometre and then hands over to the adult, who runs alone for the 24 km of the Highlander 25, which begins with a tour of the Turbach valley and its beautiful mountain pastures typical of the Bernese Oberland. After a first refreshment stop and running alongside the Turpach river, the main difficulty of the course awaits the runners as they head towards the Zwitzeregg mountain pastures.

 

Once at the Rüwlispass pass (1,715 m), there is a magnificent view of the peaks of the Simmental valley, famous for its cows of the same name. After a 180° turn, keep your eyes peeled for the picture-postcard Rüwliseeli lake, this time with the Gummfluh in the background.

Shortly afterwards, runners reach the second refreshment station at Untere Zwitzeregg, which is probably a good opportunity to taste the excellent local alpine cheese and recharge your batteries before tackling the final climb to the Parwenge Pass (1,939 m). The rest of the route will be much easier going towards the Hornberg plateau, followed by the third and final refreshment station at Horneggli (accessible for supporters by chairlift from Schönried).

Participants then skirt around the Hornfluh before embarking on the final descent towards Gstaad where, approximately 1 km before the finish line, runners, adults and children come together for a hand-in-hand finale and a joint finish in the magnificent main street.
